A New Whataburger Could Be Coming to FM 1960 West

by Katie Day

If you live around FM 1960 West, you may soon have another spot to grab a Whataburger.

A project registered with the state calls for a new, ground-up Whataburger development on FM 1960 West, according to project details. The proposed restaurant would be built on the former National Tire and Battery (NTB) site.

The project is listed as a roughly 3,300-square-foot building with an estimated construction budget of $2.3 million. The reported construction timeline runs from October through March, suggesting the project could take several months to complete if it moves forward as planned.

Of course, a project registration isn't the same thing as a grand-opening announcement. Plans can change, timelines can shift, and development projects don't always make it all the way to completion. But for residents who regularly drive FM 1960, it's an interesting addition to the area's development pipeline.

And let's be honest: Houston has no shortage of Whataburgers. The real question for FM 1960 residents is whether this particular stretch of the road actually needs another one.

For some, having another location nearby could mean a shorter drive for a late-night Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit or a quick burger run. For others, it might feel like one more fast-food restaurant in an area that already has plenty of options.

So, FM 1960 locals: would you welcome another Whataburger, or are there other restaurants you'd rather see take over the site?
