Costco and Home Depot Are Driving Major Growth Along the Katy-Cypress Corridor

by Katie Day

If you've driven along Grand Parkway (SH 99) lately, you've probably noticed just how quickly the Cypress area is changing. One of the biggest signs of that growth is now taking shape with two nationally recognized retailers set to anchor one of the region's largest new commercial developments.

A new Costco is currently under construction along Grand Parkway in Cypress and is targeting a December opening. Just south of the warehouse, Home Depot is planning a new 134,000-square-foot store, creating what could become one of northwest Houston's busiest retail destinations.

A New Retail Hub Is Taking Shape

Both stores will be part of Grand Mason, a master-planned retail development from NewQuest Properties located along SH 99. The project spans more than 400 acres and is expected to eventually exceed one million square feet of retail, restaurant, and commercial space.

For residents in Cypress, Bridgeland, Katy, and nearby communities, this represents far more than just two new stores. The development is expected to create a major shopping destination that reduces the need to travel farther into Houston for everyday errands, home improvement projects, and bulk shopping.

Costco Is Targeting a December Opening

Construction is well underway on the new Costco location, with a December opening currently planned. Once open, the warehouse is expected to serve the rapidly growing population throughout northwest Harris County, where thousands of new homes continue to be built each year.

For many local families, the new location could mean significantly shorter drives compared to existing Costco warehouses in the Houston area.

Home Depot Plans a 134,000-Square-Foot Store

Joining Costco will be a new Home Depot measuring approximately 134,000 square feet. The store will provide homeowners, contractors, and DIY enthusiasts with another convenient option as residential development continues expanding throughout Cypress and the surrounding communities.

Its location next to Costco also creates a strong retail pairing that often attracts additional restaurants, service businesses, and national retailers over time.

Why This Matters for Houston Residents

The Katy-Cypress corridor has become one of the fastest-growing areas in the Houston region. Master-planned communities like Bridgeland continue adding new residents, while nearby commercial development is working to keep pace with that population growth.

Large anchor tenants such as Costco and Home Depot often serve as catalysts for additional investment. As Grand Mason continues to develop, residents can likely expect more shopping, dining, and everyday conveniences to follow.

For homeowners, this type of development can also contribute to increased property values and make the area even more attractive for future buyers looking for convenient access to retail and services.

What to Expect Next

While Costco is aiming for a December opening, Grand Mason's full vision will take shape over the coming years as additional retailers, restaurants, and businesses announce plans to join the development.

For Houston residents living in Cypress, Bridgeland, Katy, and surrounding neighborhoods, this is one project worth keeping an eye on. It's another sign that northwest Houston continues to be one of the region's fastest-growing destinations for both residential and commercial development.

As construction progresses, the Grand Parkway corridor is poised to become an even more important shopping and business hub for the greater Houston area.
