Cyclone Anaya’s River Oaks Location Has Closed After Less Than Three Years

Another Houston restaurant has closed its doors, this time in the River Oaks area.

Cyclone Anaya’s River Oaks location on Westheimer Road has permanently closed, less than three years after the Tex-Mex restaurant opened at the location.

Paper signs posted in the restaurant’s windows indicate that the closure is permanent. As of the latest available information, Cyclone Anaya’s has not publicly announced a reason for the closure.

The restaurant’s River Oaks location opened in 2023 as part of the Houston-based Tex-Mex brand’s expansion into new neighborhoods.

Cyclone Anaya’s River Oaks Location Is No Longer Open

The closed restaurant was located at 3736 Westheimer Road, near Weslayan Street.

The River Oaks location was designed as a more modern version of the long-running Houston Tex-Mex concept, while still offering the dishes and margaritas the brand is known for.

Cyclone Anaya’s describes itself as a Houston tradition built around Tex-Mex classics, including fajitas, enchiladas and margaritas.

The River Oaks restaurant was also positioned in a competitive stretch of Westheimer surrounded by established Houston restaurants and other Tex-Mex destinations.

A Relatively Short Run for the Restaurant

The River Oaks location opened in 2023, meaning it operated for less than three years before closing.

Its arrival was part of an expansion push for Cyclone Anaya’s, which was adding locations around Houston and the surrounding area. At the time, company leadership said the brand was looking to grow into additional Houston neighborhoods.

The closure now marks a significant change for the Westheimer location.

It is also notable because the River Oaks restaurant was one of the more recent additions to the Cyclone Anaya’s lineup.

This Is the Second Recent Cyclone Anaya’s Closure

The River Oaks closure also comes after another Cyclone Anaya’s location closed within roughly the past year, making this the second reported closure for the Houston restaurant group in about a year.

At the same time, the brand continues to operate other Houston-area locations.

Its current website lists restaurants in CityCentre, Houston Heights, Midtown, Rice Village and The Woodlands, among other locations.

That means the River Oaks closure does not represent the end of Cyclone Anaya’s presence in Houston.

For fans of the restaurant's Tex-Mex menu, there are still several locations around the Houston area.

What Happens to the Westheimer Space?

For now, the next tenant for the former Cyclone Anaya’s space remains a question for Houston diners and nearby businesses.

The Westheimer corridor is one of Houston's busiest restaurant areas, with a mix of long-established local restaurants, national concepts and newer dining destinations.

The space's next chapter could add another restaurant or business to an already active stretch of the city.

Interestingly, the former Cyclone Anaya’s River Oaks space has already attracted another Houston restaurant concept: Picos has reopened there after leaving its previous Upper Kirby location, with a grand opening planned for September 24, 2026.

That gives the property a new restaurant tenant even as Cyclone Anaya’s River Oaks chapter comes to an end.

Cyclone Anaya’s Still Has a Houston Presence

While River Oaks is no longer part of the restaurant's lineup, Cyclone Anaya’s continues to operate multiple locations around Houston.

The brand's current locations continue to offer its signature Tex-Mex menu, including fajitas, enchiladas, margaritas and other Houston-style favorites.

For longtime customers, that means the River Oaks closure doesn't necessarily mean saying goodbye to Cyclone Anaya’s altogether.

But for people who regularly visited the Westheimer location, the change is certainly noticeable.
