Galveston's $700 Million Margaritaville Resort Reaches Major Construction Milestone
One of the largest resort developments on the Texas Gulf Coast is taking another step forward.
Construction crews have officially placed the first two beach cottages for the highly anticipated Margaritaville Resort on Galveston's East Beach, marking the beginning of vertical construction for the $700 million destination. The milestone gives Houston-area residents their clearest look yet at what is expected to become one of the island's most significant tourism developments in decades.
The First Beach Cottages Are Now in Place
The first two cottages have been installed along East Beach Drive as part of the resort's initial residential phase. Rather than being built entirely on-site, each home is constructed at a manufacturing facility in Houston before being transported to Galveston for final assembly.
The approach helps streamline construction while maintaining consistent quality across the development.
Once complete, the resort will include 278 luxury beach cottages, with prices currently ranging from approximately $1 million to $4 million.
What the Full Resort Will Include
The cottage community is only one piece of the larger Margaritaville vision.
Plans for the $700 million development include:
-
A full-service Margaritaville hotel
-
A resort-style lazy river
-
Multiple restaurants and bars
-
Resort pools and entertainment spaces
-
Beachfront amenities
-
Retail and guest services
Together, the project is designed to create a destination where visitors can stay for an entire vacation without leaving the property.
Developers expect the full resort to be completed by the end of the decade.
Why This Project Matters for Houston
For many Houstonians, Galveston remains the closest beach getaway, making new investments on the island especially significant.
The Margaritaville Resort represents one of the largest private tourism developments currently underway on the Texas coast. Beyond creating a new vacation destination, the project is expected to generate construction jobs, permanent hospitality positions, and increased tourism spending throughout Galveston.
The development also continues the transformation of the island's east end, an area that has seen growing interest from developers looking to expand Galveston's hospitality and residential offerings.
A New Era for Galveston's East End
As additional cottages are delivered and assembled, the resort will become increasingly visible to anyone traveling along East Beach Drive.
For Houston residents who regularly visit Galveston, the project signals continued investment in the island's future and could bring new dining, entertainment, and lodging options just over an hour from downtown Houston.
While the resort won't be fully complete for several more years, the installation of the first beach cottages is an important milestone—and one of the clearest signs yet that this long-awaited development is becoming a reality.
With construction now moving above ground, visitors can expect to see steady progress as Galveston's newest beachfront destination takes shape over the coming years.
