Huynh Restaurant Has a New Houston Home — and Its Original EaDo Location Is Closing

Houston’s beloved Vietnamese restaurant Huynh is entering a new chapter.

After 18 years in EaDo, the longtime Houston institution has opened a second location in Upper Kirby at 2720 Richmond Avenue. The move comes as the restaurant’s original location faces displacement from the ongoing I-45 expansion.

For longtime Huynh customers, there’s good news: the restaurant isn’t going anywhere. While the original EaDo location is expected to close at the end of the year, owner Cindy Dang has found a new home for the restaurant — and she’s bringing the menu with her.

A New Home in Upper Kirby

Huynh’s new Upper Kirby location gives Houston diners another place to find the Vietnamese restaurant’s familiar dishes while the original EaDo location prepares to close.

Located at 2720 Richmond Avenue, the new restaurant keeps the full Huynh menu, so regulars won’t have to say goodbye to the dishes they’ve been ordering for years. The Upper Kirby location also introduces a handful of new dishes, giving returning customers a reason to explore beyond their usual order.

That combination — familiar favorites alongside something new — makes the move feel less like an ending and more like an expansion of Huynh’s next chapter.

Why Is the EaDo Location Closing?

Huynh’s original restaurant has been part of Houston’s dining scene for nearly two decades. Its departure from EaDo, however, isn’t simply a business decision.

The restaurant has been affected by the expansion of I-45, a massive transportation project that has reshaped parts of Houston and displaced businesses and neighborhoods along the corridor.

For Huynh, that meant finding a new location rather than abandoning the restaurant’s Houston following.

Dang’s decision to reopen in Upper Kirby keeps the restaurant’s legacy alive while giving Huynh a chance to establish itself in a new part of the city.

The EaDo location is expected to remain open through the end of 2026, while the new Upper Kirby location is already welcoming customers at 2720 Richmond Avenue.
