New Caney’s New Convention Center Has a Name — and It Opens in December

A major new destination is taking shape in New Caney, and it could give the northeast Houston region a significant new venue for conventions, events and tourism.

The new Caney Pines Convention Center, a $159 million, 210,000-square-foot facility, is scheduled to open in December. Once complete, it will rank as the third-largest convention center in the Houston area, adding a substantial new piece of event infrastructure to the rapidly growing Valley Ranch corridor.

For Houston residents who have watched development push farther north and east of the city, the project is another sign that New Caney is becoming a destination in its own right.

A 210,000-Square-Foot Event Destination

Caney Pines is designed to accommodate everything from large conventions and corporate gatherings to weddings, conferences and other major events.

The centerpiece will be a 55,000-square-foot ballroom, giving the facility the capacity to host large-scale events that might otherwise require venues closer to central Houston.

With 210,000 square feet of total space, the convention center is positioned to serve not only residents of New Caney and Montgomery County, but also businesses and organizations from across the Houston region.

Houston is already home to major convention facilities, most notably downtown's George R. Brown Convention Center.

Caney Pines isn't intended to replace those venues. Instead, its location gives event organizers another option on the region's rapidly growing northern side.
