Press and Pour Brings All-Day Coffee, Cocktails and Houston History to Downtown
Downtown Houston has a new spot that knows how to start the day with coffee and end it with cocktails.
Press and Pour, the newest all-day coffee and cocktail destination at the Magnolia Hotel on Texas Avenue, has opened with a concept that blends Houston history with a distinctly modern downtown hangout.
The name itself is a nod to the building's past. Long before it became the Magnolia Hotel, the property was home to the Houston Post-Dispatch and later Shell Oil—two pieces of Houston history that helped shape the city and its downtown business district.
Today, the space has a very different rhythm.
Coffee and Cinnamon Rolls in the Morning
For downtown residents, hotel guests, and anyone heading into the city for the day, Press and Pour starts as a coffee destination.
Mornings center around espresso drinks and oversized cinnamon rolls, making it an easy stop whether you're grabbing coffee before work, meeting someone downtown, or simply looking for a reason to spend a little more time in the heart of the city.
And the oversized cinnamon rolls aren't exactly the kind of breakfast you casually forget about.
The concept is designed to transition throughout the day rather than serve one specific occasion. That's part of what makes Press and Pour particularly interesting for downtown Houston: you can walk in during the morning for coffee and come back later when the atmosphere shifts toward cocktails and food.
After 3 p.m., the Mood Changes
Starting at 3 p.m., Press and Pour shifts gears.
The coffee-and-pastry crowd gives way to cocktails and bar bites, turning the space into an option for an afternoon drink, an early evening meetup, or a pregame before heading elsewhere downtown.
That all-day format fits naturally into the evolving downtown Houston scene, where new restaurants, bars, hotels, and entertainment destinations continue giving locals more reasons to stay in the area beyond the traditional workday.
Whether you're meeting friends after work or looking for somewhere to grab a drink before a night out, Press and Pour gives downtown another option that doesn't require waiting until dinner.
A New Chapter for a Historic Downtown Building
Perhaps the most interesting part of Press and Pour isn't just what's on the menu—it's where you find it.
Downtown Houston is full of buildings with stories that predate today's restaurants, cocktail bars, and residential towers. Press and Pour adds another chapter to one of those buildings, bringing a contemporary hospitality concept into a property with deep roots in the city's commercial history.
It's a fitting combination: a place once associated with newspapers and one of Houston's biggest energy companies is now a gathering spot built around coffee, conversation, cocktails, and food.
For Houstonians who like discovering what's new around downtown, that's part of the appeal.
Press and Pour is now open at the Magnolia Hotel on Texas Avenue, offering espresso and giant cinnamon rolls in the morning before transitioning to cocktails and bar bites after 3 p.m.
So whether you're looking for a new downtown coffee stop or somewhere to meet up before the evening gets started, this is one to add to your Houston list.
Save this for your next downtown morning—or your next pregame.
