EaDo’s 100 Year Old Historic Wald Building Gets a Modern Makeover
A familiar East Downtown landmark is stepping into a new era — without losing its old soul.
The Wald Building, a nearly century-old structure, has been carefully restored and transformed into modern office space, giving new life to one of EaDo’s architectural gems.
Built in the 1920s, the Wald Building has long stood as a reminder of EaDo’s industrial past. Now, thanks to a thoughtful renovation, the space offers all the conveniences of a contemporary workplace while preserving the charm of its original brickwork, tall windows, and distinctive façade.
But the story doesn’t end there.
The updated Wald Building has room for more than just offices — future plans include bringing in a café, boutique retail space, and even a coffee roastery. These additions could make it not just a workplace, but a destination for locals and visitors alike.
The project reflects a growing movement in Houston: blending history with progress. By adapting existing structures rather than tearing them down, developers are preserving the character of neighborhoods like EaDo while creating spaces that serve today’s needs.
With its mix of history, community potential, and prime location just minutes from downtown, the Wald Building’s next chapter is looking bright. And for Houstonians who love seeing old spaces get a second life, it’s a reminder that the city’s past still has plenty to offer the future.
