A Long-Empty Hilton in Sharpstown Will Soon Be Altura Residences: Here’s What’s Planned

A Sharpstown high-rise that’s sat empty for years is about to get a whole new lease on life, literally.
Los Angeles–based Dos Lagos Asset is taking on a major project to convert the long-vacant Hilton hotel off the Southwest Freeway into a modern residential tower called Altura Residences. Once complete, the building will bring fresh housing, new retail, and new energy to this corner of Southwest Houston.
From Hotel Rooms to High-Rise Living
The reimagined tower will transform the old 13-story Hilton into sleek urban apartments.
Plans call for:
- Studio and one-bedroom units designed for modern renters
- Updated amenities to match high-rise living expectations
- Over 24,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and dining space, adding new neighborhood shops and eateries
With construction starting this September, the project is expected to wrap up in early 2027—giving Sharpstown residents and newcomers alike a chance to call this once-vacant landmark home.
Why Hotel Conversions Are Trending in Houston
Altura Residences is part of a bigger shift happening across the city. As older hotels lose demand, or sit empty, developers are seeing them as ready-made structures for housing.
Houston alone has more than 1,800 new residential units planned through hotel conversions over the next few years. It’s a smart way to tackle two big challenges at once: unused buildings and rising demand for urban apartments.
A Fresh Chapter for Sharpstown
For Sharpstown, the project could bring new life and foot traffic to a stretch of the Southwest Freeway that’s long been overlooked. By adding retail and dining at street level, Dos Lagos aims to make Altura Residences more than just apartments. It’s a chance to create a community hub in a busy but underutilized pocket of Houston.
Would You Live in a Former Hotel?
From historic buildings downtown to aging suburban towers, hotel conversions are popping up all over the city and giving Houstonians unique places to live. Would you move into one?
