Terry Black’s BBQ Is Bringing Brisket and a Boutique Hotel to the Heights: Here's What To Know

Houston’s Heights neighborhood is about to get a smokier, more stylish upgrade: Terry Black’s BBQ — one of Texas’ most beloved barbecue spots is firing up plans for its first Houston hotel alongside a new restaurant.
Set to break ground soon on North Shepherd, this $6.5 million project will combine the mouthwatering brisket and ribs Terry Black’s is famous for with a 15-room boutique hotel right next door.
More Than Just BBQ
If you’ve driven to Austin or Dallas for your Terry Black’s fix, you know this isn’t your average smokehouse. Born from a long family tradition of Central Texas barbecue, Terry Black’s is known for its massive smokers, generous platters of brisket, beef ribs, and sausage - plus classic sides done right.
Now, they’re giving Houstonians a fresh reason to stop by even if you’re not just coming for the food. The new hotel aims to bring a stylish stay-and-eat option right to the Heights, mixing boutique vibes with Texas hospitality and that unmistakable smell of oak smoke in the air.
Where It’s Going
The project is set for North Shepherd Drive, an area that’s seen a wave of new restaurants, bars, and small businesses pop up over the past few years.
For the Heights, it’s another sign that the neighborhood’s growth shows no signs of slowing down - blending historic homes and old-school charm with fresh spots that draw locals and visitors alike.
Why It Matters for Houston
Pairing a barbecue restaurant with a boutique hotel is a first for Terry Black’s and a creative twist for Houston’s food scene. It’s not just about a good meal: it’s about turning a visit into an experience.
Picture this: you roll in for a weekend staycation, check into your room, grab a cold beer, then walk downstairs to feast on smoked brisket and ribs, no Uber needed.
It’s the kind of all-in-one experience that’s popping up more often in growing neighborhoods like the Heights, where people want great food and great atmosphere all within walking distance.
When’s It Opening?
Groundbreaking is expected soon, but no official opening date has been announced yet. If all goes smoothly, the brisket + boutique hotel concept could welcome guests sometime in 2025.
