Houston Rodeo Announces Historic $300 Million Campus in Southwest Houston
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is making the largest capital investment in its history with plans for a new $300 million campus in southwest Houston.
The new one million-square-foot complex will be built near the intersection of Highway 288 and Airport Boulevard, creating a permanent, year-round home for many of the Rodeo's programs while allowing its annual event to remain at NRG Park.
A New Home for Year-Round Rodeo Activities
While millions of visitors know the Houston Rodeo for its annual concerts, carnival, livestock shows, and championship competitions each spring, the organization operates throughout the year. The new campus is designed to support that year-round mission by providing dedicated space for:
-
Livestock exhibitions and competitions
-
Youth agricultural education programs
-
Student leadership initiatives
-
Training and event facilities
-
Administrative operations
By moving these activities into a purpose-built campus, the Rodeo will have more flexibility to expand educational programming and better serve participants outside of its annual event.
Importantly, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo itself—including concerts, the carnival, and championship events—will continue to be held at NRG Park.
A Major Investment in Southwest Houston
Beyond its impact on the Rodeo, the project represents a significant investment in one of Houston's fastest-growing areas.
The Highway 288 corridor has experienced substantial residential, commercial, and infrastructure growth over the past several years. New master-planned communities, healthcare facilities, retail developments, and transportation improvements have transformed the area into one of the region's key growth corridors.
Adding a landmark campus of this scale is expected to further increase investment in the surrounding area while strengthening southwest Houston as a destination for education, agriculture, and major events.
Why This Matters
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the city's most recognizable institutions, generating significant economic activity each year while funding scholarships and youth education programs across Texas.
A permanent campus gives the organization room to grow beyond its annual three-week event and invest even more heavily in its educational mission.
For Houston residents, the project is another example of how the city continues to expand beyond its traditional business centers, with large-scale developments reshaping communities along the Highway 288 corridor.
Looking Ahead
As plans move forward, the new campus has the potential to become a major destination for agricultural education, livestock events, and community programming throughout the year.
While the Rodeo experience at NRG Park isn't going anywhere, this investment signals a new chapter for one of Houston's most iconic organizations—one focused on long-term growth, expanded opportunities, and continued investment in the region.
What do you think? Is building a dedicated year-round campus the right move for the future of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo?
