A New Montgomery County Community Is Betting Big on Bikes—and Houston May Be Watching Closely

by Allie Grodzki

Houston-area residents know that master-planned communities are constantly evolving. From resort-style pools to walkable town centers, developers are finding new ways to stand out. Now, a proposed community north of the city is taking a bold and refreshing approach—by designing an entire neighborhood around biking, outdoor access, and connectivity.

Planned in Montgomery County, a new master-planned community called Homeplace is positioning itself as one of the most bike-friendly neighborhoods in Greater Houston.

Designed for Two Wheels, Not Just Four

At the heart of Homeplace’s vision is mobility—specifically, the idea that residents shouldn’t have to rely solely on cars to get around. Plans call for 17 miles of dedicated bike lanes, along with mountain biking trails that connect directly to local schools. For families, that could mean kids biking safely to school. For adults, it means commuting within the neighborhood or enjoying recreational rides without ever leaving the community.

This focus on biking reflects a broader shift in how Houstonians are thinking about lifestyle. As traffic congestion grows and outdoor wellness becomes a bigger priority, communities that offer alternatives to driving are increasingly appealing.

A 43-Acre Amenity Center Anchors the Community

Beyond the bike infrastructure, Homeplace is also planning a 43-acre amenity center, signaling that this won’t just be a trail-focused development—it’s aiming to be a full lifestyle destination. While details are still emerging, amenity centers of this scale typically include gathering spaces, recreation areas, and outdoor-focused features that encourage neighbors to actually use the community, not just live in it.

Rooted in Local History

What makes Homeplace especially unique is its land story. The property has been owned by the same family since the late 1800s, adding a layer of historical continuity that’s rare in fast-growing parts of the Houston region. Instead of selling off the land piecemeal, the family is helping shape a long-term vision that blends heritage with modern planning.

A New Option for the Conroe Area

Located near Conroe, Homeplace is expected to begin home sales in 2027. While that may still be a few years away, it’s already drawing attention for how different it feels from more traditional suburban developments.

For Houstonians willing to look just north of the city, this could represent a new kind of suburban living—one that prioritizes outdoor access, active transportation, and intentional design.

The Big Question: Would You Live Here?

A neighborhood built around biking and the outdoors challenges the status quo of car-first planning that Greater Houston is known for. But as more residents seek healthier, more connected lifestyles, communities like Homeplace may point to where regional development is headed next.

Would you trade wider roads for wider trails?
